Description:

Variation of Condition 3 of Planning Permission LW/799/CM(EIA) to extend the hours of working.

Comments:

I vehemently object to the proposed extension of operating hours at the Brett concrete plant in Newhaven. This is a decision based on finance and should be based on health needs of my community. I am seriously concerned about noise pollution, dust emissions, and general environmental and public nuisance. Extending operational hours into early mornings and late evenings is unacceptable and will disrupt the peace of residents and undermine quality of life in Newhaven. The industrial noise is already intolerable. Here is why… Airborne dust from cement and aggregate processing, as well as from increased HGV movements, presents a clear risk to public health. Fine particulate matter contributes to respiratory problems, particularly in children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions. These risks are well documented and must be taken seriously, especially in an area already subject to industrial pressures. Longer hours will also lead to an increase in heavy goods traffic, which must be strictly controlled. All plant-related traffic should be confined to McKinlay Way and explicitly barred from using any other local routes, which are wholly unsuitable. Without enforceable traffic controls, the impact of this proposal will be unmanageable and unacceptable. Newhaven is working hard to revitalise its identity, encouraging investment in housing, culture, and green industries. This proposal would move the town in the opposite direction—further entrenching industrial nuisance at the expense of public wellbeing and environmental quality. Planning decisions should reflect a balanced and sustainable future for the area. This proposal offers neither. It brings no meaningful community benefit, only greater disruption. I beg East Sussex County Council to reject this application. Just for once can you do the right thing. Please.
